At Broken to Brave Horse Sanctuary, every horse who arrives here carries a story we wish they never had to live through. Many come from auctions, kill pens, neglect, or situations where they were forgotten, discarded, or simply out of time. They arrive unsure, underweight, frightened, and guarded — surviving, but not yet living.
And then something incredible happens.
With safety, patience, consistent care, and compassion, walls begin to come down. Eyes soften. Trust returns. Personalities emerge. The same horses who once stood quietly in fear begin to nicker when they see us, follow us in the pasture, and reach for connection again.
This is where broken becomes brave.
Our sanctuary is built on the belief that healing takes time and that every horse deserves the chance to feel safe, valued, and loved. Through proper nutrition, veterinary care, farrier work, training, and gentle handling, we help these horses rediscover who they were always meant to be.

Purpose
Broken to Brave Horse Sanctuary is a dedicated 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to rescuing horses from neglect, abuse, and the slaughter pipeline. We exist to give vulnerable horses a safe place to land — and the time they need to heal.
At our sanctuary, horses receive proper nutrition, veterinary and farrier care, training, and compassionate handling in an environment built on patience and trust. Many arrive fearful and uncertain, but with consistent care and kindness, they begin to recover both physically and emotionally. Watching them learn to trust again is the heart of our mission.
Our work is made possible by a team of passionate volunteers and supporters who believe every horse deserves dignity, safety, and a second chance. Together, we are not only rehabilitating horses — we are restoring hope.

A large number of the horses who come to Broken to Brave are rescued directly from kill pens, often frightened, underweight, and out of time. By sharing their stories and advocating for better care and awareness, we hope to prevent neglect before it happens and inspire others to be part of the solution for horses in need.
Adoption Services
We are committed to finding safe, loving, and permanent homes for every horse in our care. Our adoption process is designed to thoughtfully match each horse with the right person and environment, setting both horse and adopter up for long-term success.
While they wait for their perfect home, our rescued horses receive ongoing care, training, and rehabilitation. We focus on improving their physical health, building trust, and helping them develop the skills they need to thrive in their next chapter. By the time they leave our sanctuary, they are not just surviving — they are ready to be partners, companions, and beloved family members.
